Sales
Yang Cheng Tong can be purchased from 7-Eleven stores, T&T Laundry, Guangzhou Metro ticket centers, Yang Cheng Tong stations and customer service centers.
It should be noted that only the standard cards contain deposit. Standard card is sold for ￥70 (￥20 refundable deposit and ￥50 worth of credit).

Use:
You validate your Yang Cheng Tong by holding the card from up to 10 centimeters away the reader target for at least half a second or until a single beep sounds on the reader.
Short beeps will sound if your card does not validate successfully and either of the two error messages will appear on the display screen:
"Fare deducted. Please move your card away the reader."
"Deduction failure. Please recharge your card."
Note:
Preferential policies of different regions are not to be offered accumulatively. Travelers with Yang Cheng Tong and Foshan Tong may enjoy either the preferential policy of Guangzhou and Foshan depending on the place of use.
※ Ferries
Use:
You validate your Yang Cheng Tong by holding the card within 10 centimeters to the reader target for at least half a second or until a single beep sounds on the reader.
※ Metro
Use:
Travelers touch the card on the reader to open the automated barriers and get through when a green light flashes.
※ Meters: More than 800 meters within Guangzhou
Use:
Upon swiping the card into a slot, a timer is set within the meter. Touch the card on the reader again when you leave and the fare will be deducted automatically.
※ Taxis: Taxis with Yang Cheng Tong sign pasted on the rear window
Use:
Fare and transaction time are displayed on the screen. Passengers touch the card on the reader which will acknowledge payment by emitting a beep sound and display the amount deducted and the remaining balance of the card.
Readers will become inoperable once the transactions are settled to avoid repetition of payment for one journey.
Short beeps indicate transaction failure. Please follow the instruction of the drivers and swipe the card again.
In case balance is not enough to process the payment, the error message of "Insufficient balance. Please pay cash fares" will be displayed on the screen.
※ Car Parks: Car parks with Yang Cheng Tong sign plate
Use:
1) Barrier gate: Users swipe the card into a slot to set a timer. Touch the card on the reader again when you leave and the fare will be deducted automatically.
2) Cashier: Users touch the card on the reader which will acknowledge payment automatically and display the amount deducted and the remaining balance of the card. In case balance is insufficient to process the payment, please pay cash fares and value needs to be added to them again for use.
Users may refuse payment in case taxation invoice were not issued properly.
※ Merchants and public facilities: The Yang Cheng Tong is widely used for payment at convenience stores, supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants and food markets. The Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and libraries in Guangzhou also accept Yang Cheng Tong for payment for registration fees and overdue fine, etc. The cards are applied by companies and institutes for payment at canteens and for entrance guard management and work attendance record.
Merchants and institutes may paste Yang Cheng Tong signs to indicate the acceptance of the card use. Users touch the card on the reader for only 0.3 second to complete transaction.
※ Other services: The Yang Cheng Tong is also applied by companies and residential communities as staff card or membership card for identity and entrance management, work attendance record and patrol duty control. Each card is attached with a unique and unalterable electronic serial number, which support the correctness of identity.
These non-open-ended upgrade services are authorized by the Yang Cheng Tong Co., Ltd. and developed from the Yang Cheng Tong system.
The previous Yangchengtong Card was upgraded. Now, using Yangchengtong Card can pay for the bus ticket in Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, Jiangmen, Shanwei, Huizhou, Maoming, Shaoguan, Yunfu, Zhuhai, Heyuan, Yangjiang, Zhanjiang, Meizhou, Qingyuan, Chaozhou, Zhongshan, Shantou, Dongguan, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao.
Preferential Policy
※ Within one month, take buses or/and metros for 15 times and enjoy 40% off from the 16th time on. (No discount for taking buses for less than 15 times.)
※ 5% discount for taking metros.
※ 50% off for student cards holders.
※ Free service for elder cards holders.
Notice
1. Purchase cards at the authorized points of sale.
2. Do not exchange cards.
3. Cards are due to expire when unused for over one year and shall be renewed at the customer service center before reuse.
4. The Yang Cheng Tong is anonymous and thus cannot be registered or protected for loss or theft. Please take proper care of your cards.
5. Both sides of the cards are readable.
6. Please do not swipe more than one card at one time or payment will be charged on all of the cards.
7. Repetition of payment by the same card cannot be generated within designate time or without intermediate transactions of other cards. Green light flashes, short beeps sound and error message is displayed as follow: "Fare is deducted. Please move your card away from the reader". The reader will acknowledge payment by the card again after successful transaction of three different cards.
8. Please do not glue, laminate, twist, deface, scratch, punch or mutilate the cards. Avoid high temperature and magnets. Malfunction may occur due to interference brought by metals or electric devices (such as gold cards and notebooks, etc.). Please do not break off or damage the aerial running around the edge of the card.
9. Auto top up machines are not applicable for Xeno-cards and mini cards.
10. The balance will be displayed on the reader and can also be requested at the customer service centers. Auto top up machines and enquiry machines also report the balance. The same information is available as a print-out by request.
11. It may be so crowded on the bus that occasional repetition payment may occur and disputes are elicited between the driver and the passengers. In this regard, the principle of "each card for one person" is encouraged to guarantee better service for the users.
When the balance runs low, the card can be topped up at the authorized service providers with unitary signs written "Yang Cheng Tong Top Up Stop (羊城通充值點)", "Yang Cheng Tong Auto Top Up Stop (羊城通自助充值點)" or "Yang Cheng Tong Convenient Stop (羊城通便利站)".
Recharges are paid in ￥50 or its multiples. A Yang Cheng Tong may store a maximum value of ￥500 or ￥1000 and a minimum of ￥50 (exclusive of customized cards). The minimum top up amount for the Yang Cheng Tong is ￥20 and the maximum is ￥50.
Negative value is not incurred on a card. Please pay cash fare in case of insufficient funds.
※ Top up in person
The card may be recharged with cash in person at more than 800 service providers including the Yang Cheng Tong Convenient Stops, 7-Eleven, chain stores of T&T Laundry, Yang Cheng Tong Service Stations, Read Everyday bookstores, Ertiantang drugstores and Dayoo bookstores.
※ Automatic add value service
Automatic add value service allows for money to be automatically deducted from a registered debit or credit card and added to a Yang Cheng Tong. Hold the card on the reader for 3 seconds and the machines will acknowledge payment by emitting a beep sound.
Auto top up service is available in metro stations and banks.
Banks participating in providing the binding service include China Construction Bank, Bank of Guangzhou (former Guangzhou Commercial Bank), China Merchants Bank, China Minsheng Bank, Shenzhen Development Bank and Bank of Communications.
※ Self-service top up
Self-service top up machines accept electronic funds transfer round the clock by Pacific Credit Card issued by Bank of Communications, Peony Card issued by Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and other China UnionPay cards issued by other banks.
Self-service top up machines are set up in metro stations, Bank of Communications, Bank of Guangzhou, China Minsheng Bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Merchants Bank, Shenzhen Development Bank, China Everbright Bank, McDonald's, public places and car parks.
※ Top up coupon
Top up coupon holding value of either ￥50 or ￥100 can be purchased at FamilyMart convenience stores and Read Everyday bookstores in metro stations.
Monetary value on the coupon can be added to the card on over 500 auto top up machines.
Each coupon can be used for only once and value is added onto one card at one time within valid period. It cannot be registered or protected for loss or theft. For more information, please refer to the instructions by the operator of ePayLinks.
Note:
It is authorized by the Local Taxation Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality that invoices are not issued for recharging Yang Cheng Tong. The top up amount is deposited in the E-wallet and will be transferred to the service providers. In other words, it does not enter the purchase of goods and services. When transaction occurs, invoice is issued by the service providers at users' request.

Malfunction
※ Replacement
Applicable only for disable standard card and non-standard card within its one-year warranty period (exclusive of co-branded card, xeno-card and membership card).
1) For disable cards with no man-made damage:
Free replacement is provided for standard cards.
Free replacement of a designated card is provided for non-standard cards.
Non-standard cards can only be replaced for once.
Disable cards are retrieved.
2) For disable cards with man-made damage (Please refer to the relevant content in Refunds)
Replacement for damaged standard cards costs ￥20 and disable cards are retrieved.
Damaged non-standard cards cannot be replaced and disable cards are not retrieved. Balance is transferable to proper cards.
※ Balance Transfer
Applicable only for disable standard card and non-standard card within its one-year warranty period (exclusive of co-branded card, xeno-card and membership card).
1) Balance is transferred to a proper card on the spot in case it can be read properly.
2) In case it cannot be read on the spot and requires detection, the balance can be transferred to the registered proper card on the auto top up machines after 7 work days.
3) A 30-day history is transferred to the proper card on the spot.
Note: Disable cards are not for reuse.
※ What to do in case the card is inoperable?
1) Find the nearest customer service center.
2) Replacement is handled on the spot. Balance can be transferred to the registered proper card on the auto top up machines after detection of 7 work days.
3) Unlike the online transaction system of bankcards which support real time data and balance transfer, Yang Cheng Tong system is asynchronous and the current balance and ticket data are held electronically on the card rather than in the central database, which requires 7 work days for detection.
※ How to refund?
Find the nearest customer service center. Refund is handled and balance is transferred to a proper card on the spot in case the card can be read properly. Otherwise you have to go back to the customer service center and have your balance reloaded on a proper card after 7 work days.
※ What to do in case the card is accepted for payment by bus but not by metro?
Find the metro ticket office or Yang Cheng Tong customer service centers.
※ What to do in case of top up transaction failure?
A successful transaction involves debit of the top up amount against an account and payment taken from the debit. Failure may occur in either of the procedures. Main reasons for recharging failures may include:
1) debit failure;
2) technical faults of the top up machines;
3) network breakdown or session expiration;
4) top up amount exceeding the maximum load;
5) load failure or removing the card when the amount is being loaded;
6) disable or damaged card.
Balance will be shown on the machines after recharging. In case the top up is not added to the card, debit will be canceled and the amount will be returned automatically.
In the instances of 2), 3) and 5), balance cannot be read and the amount will not be returned automatically. Please refer to the solution for the next question to reclaim the amount.

Refunds
Yang Cheng Tong refunds are handled by the customer service centers and are applicable only for standard cards with refundable deposit.
Terms:
1. Refunds are subject to 10% handling charges in case the cards hold balance of more than or equal to ￥150.
2. Balance is returned on the spot in case the card can be read properly. Otherwise you have to go back to the customer service center and reclaim your balance by receipt after detection of 7 work days.
3. A deposit of ￥20 is returned for cards with no man-made damages and cards are retrieved.
4. A ￥20 charge is applied to the refunds for cards with man-made damages and cards are retrieved.
Cards which are folded, scratched, twisted, defaced, punched, corroded, soaked, mutilated or with microchip broken or missing shall be defined as damaged cards.
Note:
Cards are refundable for only once.
Deposit is returned in conjunction with the balance.
Refunded cards are not for reuse.
Lingnan Tong is a smartcard designed for paying the travel fares in the buses, metro, taxis, intercity rail transits and ferries in Guangdong. It is also used for payment at convenience stores, supermarkets, on-street parking meters and car parks. It is to be developed for compatible use with smartcards in Hong Kong and Macao, which will further facilitate the transportation network in the Pan Pearl River Delta region.
Lingnan Tong, Yang Cheng Tong, Guangfo Tong and other local smartcards are applicable in nearly all PRD cities (exclusive of Shenzhen) including Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, Jiangmen, Shanwei and Huizhou.

1. Can I use Yang Cheng Tong for payment at car parks in other cities in Guangdong?
Yang Cheng Tong can be used for payment at any car parks with the service sign plates. Lingnan Tong is also accepted at convenience stores and car parks in Guangzhou.
2. What to do to refund Yang Cheng Tong and Guangfo Tong after the issue of Lingnan Tong?
Please refer to the instructions pasted on the official websites of the two systems.
3. Can I use Lingnan Tong for payment traveling expressways in Guangdong?
Expressways in Guangdong do not accept Lingnan Tong for payment at the moment.
